Welcome to the PE Dept.

Welcome to Llantwit Major School's Physical Education department. Being one of the busiest departments in school, we have many opportunities for you to get involved in and lots of activities to report back on. Physical Education at Llantwit School is taught by 6 members of staff and is regarded as an important subject. It is not simply about 'letting off steam', but a subject that can educate a child through a variety of physical activities.
Long Jump
Tug of War

Research has shown that young people today are becoming increasingly unfit, overweight and far more likely to get degenerative diseases in adult life because of their inactivity as children.

Poor diet, endless hours in front of the television or home computer and being transported around by car, bus and train all underline the necessity for regular physical activity in schools.

By maintaining a basic level of fitness and good health the children will not only gain huge physical benefits, but also learn important social skills as individuals and as a part of a team. They learn tolerance, co-operation, how to accept and hold responsibility and how to win and lose gracefully, to name a few.

What We Do...

Pupils receive 2x1 hour lessons a week. Activities are Key Stage related and cover National Curriculum strands of Gymnastics, Dance, Athletics, Invasion Games and Outdoor Activities. As with other departments, pupils are given target levels and effort grades throughout the year.

Pupils play a large role in the planning, performance and evaluation of their own work and of others in the group. They have opportunities to perform in lessons, at lunchtimes and after school clubs, in competitions and in performances for parents and feeder schools.
Running

The P.E. Department ethos is to provide for and allow any pupil in the school to take part in activities regardless of their ability. Our teams have been very successful in many sports across the county and individual pupils have gone on to represent District, County and become Internationals in their respective sport.
