Excellence in Design & Technology
Each year there is a national exhibition of excellence for work produced in Design Technology.
This is a prestigious event in the Design Technology calendar as it displays a selective showcase of 80 of the most innovative projects produced by exam students across all entrants of WJEC Design Technology.
As part of the Welsh Assembly Government and WJEC Design Technology Innovation awards of 2009 exhibition, several LLantwit students were selected to participate.
3 A level students – Geoff Barrett, Matthew Osbourne and Luke Dee
2 GCSE candidates Oli Powell (Graphics) and Systems (Rhys Balmont)
Geoff Barrett went on to win recognition for his outstanding project work in designing and manufacturing a retractable surf leash. The product will now be taken to display in the NEC as part of a British DT showcase. Geoff was not only presented with his award and a £500 cash prize but the patent office have offered to pursue a patent process for him free of charge.
This is the fourth time LLantwit has won the overall innovation award in eleven years. To view a catalogue of student success in the department, please click to navigate to the >> student success in Design Technology
